Grandparents as Parents
The Grandparents as Parents Program (GAPP) at Methodist Children’s Home offers hope and support to families struggling to meet the challenges of parenting the second time around. The primary focus of this program is to help keep families together.
MCH offers the following services to support grandparents raising their grandchildren:
Information and Referral
MCH helps grandparents access community resources and programs, including counseling, parent training, food assistance and child care.
HOPE Support Group
The GAPP support group, Helping Ourselves Parent Effectively (HOPE), offers emotional support and advice on ways to deal with common problems many grandparents face when raising grandchildren.
Legal Assistance
The GAPP staff helps grandparents navigate the challenges of legal programs and working with government agencies.
Workshops
MCH partners with other organizations to host community events and workshops on topics that are important to grandparents.
Limited Financial Assistance
When possible, MCH provides limited financial assistance for utilities, rent, and other necessities.
